Australian Coal Association’s Nikki Williams on NSW Govt land use policy

The NSW Government’s Strategic Regional Land Use Plan, released earlier this month, is the latest in a long line of ‘bureaucracy’ substituted for reform, where duplication and delay sends an ugly message to investors of mobile international capital that they might be better off employing their funds somewhere else.

The land use policy is the NSW Government’s response to managing competing land users, such as the agricultural and mining industries. The state government announced a range of initiatives to manage the coal seam gas industry in NSW, including Codes of Practice, Aquifer Interference Policy and the appointment of a Land and Water Commissioner.
